How to Charge Your iPhone With Clean Energy
By tailoring charging durations for times when the grid is using greener energy sources, the new Clean Energy Charging feature in iOS 16.1 attempts to reduce the iPhone's carbon footprint. To find out how to manage it, continue reading.
iPhones running iOS 16.1 for customers in the US will strive to lessen your carbon impact by only charging when power with reduced carbon emissions is available. According to Apple, the iPhone picks up on your daily charging habits and may charge completely before you need to use it.
Based on the device's location, the background process in iOS 16.1 gathers carbon emission data from the regional load balancing authority in your area.
In order to regulate Clean Energy Charging so that the device charges when demand on the power grid is low and cleaner energy is available, the iPhone then receives a carbon emission prediction from the authorities.
According to Apple, the Clean Energy Charging feature is turned on by default, so nothing has to be done for it to work in the background. Here's where to look to find the feature if you do want to turn it off and on at any time.
How to Enable or Disable Clean Energy Charging
- Launch the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Scroll down and tap Battery.
- Tap through to Battery Health & Charging.
- Toggle on/off the switch next to Clean Energy Charging.
It should be noted that if you are on iOS 16.1 and the Clean Energy Charging option is not there, your region is not yet supported for the feature.
