How to Get a Currency Conversion Using Your iPhone's Camera
A built-in currency conversion capability was added by Apple to the Camera app in iOS 16. How to utilize it is explained in this post.
Apple included the Live Text feature to iOS 15 in 2021, enabling you to copy or share text that shows in your camera's viewfinder. Live Text automatically recognizes text. Apple has improved Live Text in iOS 16 by giving it the option to instantly convert currencies.
Therefore, the next time you're traveling and come across a price tag written in a foreign currency, just follow these instructions to obtain a real-time conversion into the currency of your own location based on the current exchange rate.
- Launch the Camera app on your iPhone.
- Hold the camera up to the price tag so that a frame appears around the digits in the viewfinder.
- Tap the Live Text icon that appears in the bottom-right corner of the viewfinder so that it turns yellow.
- Tap the currency conversion icon that appears in the bottom-left corner of the viewfinder to get a real-time conversion.
All there is to it is that. Keep in mind that if you want to share it or paste it elsewhere, you may hit the Copy option in the conversion popover.
