iPhone 14 Pro: How to Disable the Always-on Display
An always-on display and other cutting-edge features not seen in the rest of the iPhone 14 series are incorporated in the recently released iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
The Lock Screen wallpaper, widgets, and any active Live Activities on your iPhone are all represented on the always-on display in a colored, non-customizable form.
Thanks to a more power-efficient OLED panel with a customizable refresh rate as low as 1Hz, Apple was able to add the always-on display to the iPhone 14 Pro models without significantly affecting battery life. Additionally, the always-on display pre-renders individual frames for content components like the time that are expected to change and only refreshes them as needed.
When certain conditions are met, such as when your iPhone is face down, in your pocket or bag, in Sleep Focus mode, or if you are wearing an Apple Watch and leave the room where your iPhone is, the always-on display will automatically switch itself off, according to Apple. According to Apple, the A16 Bionic chip's many coprocessors enable the always-on display to be updated with "minimum power" and be "extremely power efficient."
However, several iPhone 14 Pro reviewers have claimed that the always-on display has a little but visible influence on battery life despite Apple applying the aforementioned fixes. It's still unclear just how big of an impact the feature has on battery life, but if you want to get the most out of your iPhone's battery or just find an always-on display annoying, here's how to turn it off.
How to Disable the iPhone 14 Pro Always-on Display
- Launch the Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap through to Display & Brightness.
- Scroll down and toggle off the switch next to Always On.
All there is to it is that. Now, when you click the Side button, your iPhone will switch off and stay that way until you touch the button again or pick it up.
