Apple Watch Ultra: How to Customize the Action Button
On the left side of the casing of the Apple Watch Ultra is a programmable Action button that may be used for a number of tasks. What it can accomplish and how to setup it are both covered in this article.
The Action Button on the Apple Watch Ultra may be configured to carry out a variety of tasks in addition to sounding the Siren, providing instant access to them without requiring you to tap through numerous panels.
You will be asked to choose one of the following functions to attach to your Apple Watch Ultra when you initially set it up:
- Workout
- Stopwatch
- Waypoint
- Backtrack
- Dive
- Flashlight
- Shortcut
- None
Depending on the app or function you choose, you can further modify your choice. For instance, if you choose the Program app, pushing the Action button once will launch it. However, you can also set the "First Press" function within the app to begin a certain workout.
That's not all, though. Once the activity has begun, you may click the button once again to complete a secondary task, such marking segments or laps during a track exercise or transitioning from cycling to running during a triathlon. Again, the purpose will depend on the present undertaking.
How to Map Functions to the Action Button
Once your Apple Watch Ultra is configured, a new menu may be accessed right on your wrist to reassign functions to the Action button.
- On Apple Watch Ultra, launch the Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap Action Button.
- Tap the menu under "Action" and select one of the following options: Workout, Stopwatch, Waypoint, Backtrack, Dive, Flashlight, and Shortcut.
- Tap the arrow in the left-hand corner to go back to Action Button settings.
- Tap the menu under "App" if it appears, then select an app to perform the action. Some actions, such as Flashlight, don't show the App option.
- Tap the arrow to go back.
- Tap the menu under "First Press" if it appears, then select an action. Some features allow different actions to happen on the first and second press of the button.
Tips describing how the Action button functions with the settings you've given it display on the screen under "Gestures." For instance, advice for an outdoor walk demonstrates that hitting the Action button once initiates an exercise, while simultaneously pressing the Action button and the side button pauses the action.
Configuring the Action Button via iPhone
Additionally, you may customize what the Action button on the Apple Watch Ultra performs using the iOS Watch app.
- Launch the Watch app on your iPhone.
- Tap the My Watch tab if it's not already selected.
- Tap Action Button.
- Under "Action," tap the currently selected action to change it.
- Select from one of the following options: Workout, Stopwatch, Waypoint, Backtrack, Dive, Flashlight, and Shortcut.
- Tap Action Button to go back to the previous menu.
Take note of the hints on the screen under "Gestures" that describe how the Action button functions with the settings you've given it.
It should be noted that you may press and hold the Action and Side buttons simultaneously to halt the current action. When you click the Action button, try not to unintentionally push the Side button or the Digital Crown. Unless a button combination is selected, pressing another button at the same time will cause your Apple Watch to perform the action that is assigned to the Action button.
