4 Simple HACKS to Improve Battery Life on Any iPhone!

These iPhone battery-saving tips are for you if you've ever found yourself looking around for outlets or concerned about how long your iOS device will last between charges.

These iOS Battery saving hacks are helpful even if you’ve got iPhone 14, iPhone SE, iPhone 13, iPhone 12th, iPhone 11, or earlier iPhone models.

Four hacks to boost your iPhone’s battery life right now

1. Turn on low power mode Automatically

Every iPhone user knows the routine: when our battery falls below 20%, we see the recognizable pop-up notice that reads, "Low Battery. 20% of the battery is left. If you choose to disregard it, another warning will sound when the battery is just 10% charged. However, turning on Low Power Mode will help you get a little more time before you need to recharge your iPhone.

With iOS 9, Apple added Low Power Mode, allowing you to use your iPhone for longer while the battery is running low. What precisely does Low Power Mode accomplish, and if it preserves battery life, why not use it constantly?

When the battery is running low, several iPhone capabilities are disabled via the Low Power Mode iOS option. When your battery reaches 20% and then 10%, your iPhone will prompt you to use Low Power Mode.

According to Apple, Low Power Mode cuts down on the power consumption of your iPhone to extend battery life.

Your battery symbol will be yellow if your device is in Low Power Mode. When the battery charge on your iPhone hits 80%, Low Power Mode is automatically turned off.

Low Power Mode performs the following adjustments, according the official Apple support website, to save the charge in your battery:

  • Turns off 5G (except for video streaming)
  • Sets your iPhone screen to turn off after 30 seconds of inactivity
  • Reduces display brightness
  • Lowers display refresh rate for iPhones with ProMotion
  • Eliminates some visual effects
  • Pauses iCloud Photos sync
  • Suspends automatic downloads
  • Pauses email fetch
  • Stops background apps from refreshing

In addition to preventing HDR video playback, Low Power Mode inhibits video autoplay, turns off the always-on display on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, and lowers CPU and GPU performance.

By heading to Settings > Battery and switching on Low Power Mode, you may manually activate iPhone Low Power Mode. Low Power Mode may also be manually activated using Siri or the iPhone Control Center.

Simply putting your iPhone into Low Power Mode after each charge would be the manual approach to keep Low Power Mode on all the time. However, there is an automatic, simpler method to "set it and forget it." You'll need to use the Shortcuts app to create your own Personal Automation if you want to keep your iPhone in Low Power Mode continuously.

There are various methods to use shortcuts to automatically establish Low Power Mode, but for me, the simplest approach is to activate Low Power Mode anytime the battery is below 100%. In this way, your iPhone is practically always up Low Power Mode, but it can still make backups, finish downloading, and get updates while it's linked in and fully charged.

  1. On your iPhone home screen, swipe all the way to the right to access your App Library, then swipe down to hit Shortcuts.
  2. Once the software has started, go to the bottom of the page and choose Automation. Then, hit the blue Create Personal Automation icon.
  3. Scroll down to Battery Level on the New Animation screen.
  4. Choose Falls Below from the bottom menu, then drop the slider all the way to the right for 100%. then press Next. Your criteria for initiating an action have been established.
  5. The action to put your iPhone in Low Power Mode should now be created. Click the blue Add Action button located on the Actions screen.
  6. Then, either hit Scripting and look for it under Device, or press the search bar, type "Low" and select Set Low Power Mode.
  7. When you choose Set Low Power Mode, "Turn Low Power Mode On" will appear on your Actions screen.
  8. Choose Next. Toggle the Ask Before Running off option on the following New Automation page to enable automatic activation of Lower Power Mode. For each time the automation runs, you can ask for a notice.
  9. Tap "Don't Ask" to confirm, then hit Done to complete. You are prepared. Your iPhone will enter Low Power Mode automatically if the battery level falls below 100%.

2: Delete Rogue apps

The most power-hungry apps can significantly increase your life-per-charge by reducing the battery drain on your iPhone.

Small components within your smartphone called processors enable it to operate the camera, view videos, and do other functions.

Processors must work harder to complete complex tasks (or poorly designed apps), which uses more battery power.
Some activities take place in the background, such as tracking your location for Google Maps or checking for new updates on Facebook.

Even though you can't see these processes taking place, they are nevertheless reducing your battery life.

An app with bad coding sometimes drains your battery quickly. Even when they are not in use, I've seen problems in really popular programs like Facebook and the YouTube app cause them to drain a completely charged battery in a matter of hours!

You may use a built-in function on your iPhone to see precisely which apps are consuming the most battery life.
How to determine which iPhone apps use the most battery life?

  1. Log into your iPhone's Settings.
  2. Pick Battery.
  3. You may get a list of the applications that have consumed the most battery life by scrolling down. Safari is what I use, although yours could be different. You can even discover an application that uses up your battery far more quickly than others.
  4. Select "Show Activity." You can view how much time you've spent utilizing each app. You might want to think about deleting a certain app if it significantly drains your power with only a little usage.
  5. Select "Last 10 Days." This displays the 10 days' worth of most-battery-intensive applications. You could discover some surprises here: I had assumed that Mail and Slack were where I spent the majority of my time, but it appears that during the previous 10 days, I spent more time on GroupMe.

That's basically it. It's easy to monitor which apps are draining your power. If you download a new app and realize that your battery is depleting rapidly, this is really helpful. This may occasionally be the result of problems, in which case you should remove the program until the issue has been resolved.

An app is a battery killer if you haven't used it for very long yet it ranks highly in terms of usage.

Apps that consume a lot of power and spend a lot of time running in the background should be avoided since they will shorten your battery life.

Any applications that are creating issues can be removed.

3. Set your iPhone to Join Wi-Fi networks automatically

When you get back into range, your iPhone will automatically reconnect to the network by remembering your login details and network.

If the iPhone is linked to an LTE (4G) network, the battery life decreases quickly. When a phone is linked to a cellular network, it has been observed that the battery drains quickly and unexpectedly. Battery usage might also rise as a result of switching between 4G and 3G owing to inadequate network coverage.

Setting your iPhone to automatically connect to well-known Wi-Fi networks is one technique to solve this issue. This can prevent your phone's battery from depleting more quickly.

Your iPhone's battery will be completely drained if you get home still connected to your cellular data without having auto join Wi-Fi networks activated. You may even forget to connect to WiFi for a few minutes or even hours. Since everything is automatically completed when Auto Join Wi-Fi is activated, you may stay connected to your wireless network at all times without using a lot of cellular data or draining your battery.

The procedures below should be taken if your iPhone doesn't immediately connect to a Wi-Fi network:

  1. Open Settings and tap Wi-Fi.
  2. Tap the info button (i) next to your known Wi-Fi network.
  3. Make sure Auto-Join is enabled for this.

Your iPhone will now always join to one of the two available Wi-Fi networks when you enter this area.

4. Turn on dark mode to save your battery

Use your phone's specialized dark mode if you don't want to constantly modify the brightness of your screen. The majority of the time, dark mode changes all of the white backgrounds in applications to black backgrounds. In turn, the darker hues enable your phone to conserve battery life.

Dark mode does not, however, increase energy efficiency on every device. If your phone has an OLED display, enabling dark mode is equivalent to turning off several lights in your home, and the cumulative net power savings are significant.

The dramatic increase of dark interfaces can be attributed to newer OLED panels, which light up differently than conventional LCD screens. LCD panels light all of its pixels from the edges, whereas each OLED pixel produces its own light. LCD screens consume the same amount of power whether they are displaying an all-white picture or an all-black image, whereas OLED pixels that are black draw no power and are closer to absolute darkness than LCD panels. Your OLED phone will only illuminate the pixels required to generate the icons and text and will turn off all of the background pixels if your phone has a totally black backdrop.

Okay, I'll be the first to say that despite my knowledge of OLED screens, I have no idea if my phone has an OLED or LCD display. How can I learn more? So, the full list of iPhones with OLED displays is as follows:

  • iPhone XS/XS Max
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 12 mini
  • iPhone 12 Pro
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 13 Mini
  • iPhone 13 Pro
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 14
  • iPhone 14 Plus
  • iPhone 14 Pro
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max

Now, here’s how to turn on Dark mode on your iPhone:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Display & Brightness
  3. Select the Dark option at the top of the screen.

Most third-party apps have also added this feature. Apple's apps will automatically switch to a dark color scheme.
