‘Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales’ Steam Deck Review – Be Yourself on the Go

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is an example of a sequel or expansion that is much better than the original game. I loved Marvel's Spider-Man on PS4, PS5, and most recently on Steam Deck, but Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a better game overall. After how good Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered was, I couldn't pass up the chance to check it out on Steam Deck. I'm happy to say that Nixxes did a great job with Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Before we talk about how it looks and works on Steam Deck, it's important to know that Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales takes place after the first game. I recommend you play that, but if you want to play as Miles and haven't bought either game yet, you can get this one instead. Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which was Insomniac Games' first game for the PS5, was amazing. Just remember that this version is shorter than the first. I spent about half as much time here as I did on PS5 and PS4 with Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered.

Valve has already checked and approved Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales for Steam Deck. Even though being verified doesn't guarantee great performance or graphics, I'm happy to say that after a bit of tweaking, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales runs and looks like a dream on Steam Deck. If I hadn't already played it on PS5, I would have tried to get 100% on Steam Deck. Due to the busy release season, I will only be able to make small progress on that over the next few weeks.

I used the Steam Deck's refresh rate change for 40hz to get Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered to run at 40fps with drops. I did this by using a mix of high and medium settings. Even though a 30fps cap will give you a more stable experience as a whole, I chose to deal with some drops in exchange for the improvement that 40fps brings. Even when there was a lot going on, like in the opening set pieces, it didn't slow down too much and looked good the whole time.
In general, the gyro on the Steam Deck works well, and when games don't support it, I usually turn it on through the control settings. Nixxes's gyro setup in Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales was the same as mine, which is a great thing to see. You can turn this off, but I didn't because I like how Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales uses it. All of the screenshots in the review were taken with IGDI or FSR using a mix of medium and high settings. I even included one with an ultrawide aspect ratio while my Steam Deck was connected via HDMI to my 1440p monitor to show what is possible in the port.

The only thing I don't like about Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales for PC is that you can't buy it at a discount with Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered. On PS5, you can get them both as part of the Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition for $69.99, but you have to buy them separately for a total of about $110 on PC. Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is worth your time if you don't mind this. I just hope that Sony gets better at setting prices when it brings these beloved PlayStation-only games to PC in the future.
If you haven't played Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales before, Steam Deck is a good place to start. Miles Morales is a tighter and more focused version of the original game's formula. The combat is better, and the licensed music is used in a brilliant way. You can also enjoy the story during the holidays. Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales has been out for about two years, and it has gotten better with time. It's another game from Sony that works perfectly on Steam Deck.
